After Apple’s launch of the iPhone 5, we now have the official specifications of the latest iOS smartphone and compare it with other flagship smartphones’ specifications. Consequently we can also have an informed decision in getting the best smartphone that will suit us best.

New Iphone 5

Without further ado, here’s a comparison of the different aspects of the three leading smartphones today namely, the iPhone 5, Samsung Galaxy S III and HTC One X:

Operating System

iPhone 5 was launched with an iOS operating system that is updated to the latest version which is the iOS 6. With this operating system, iPhone 5 buyers can enjoy several additional new features such as a smarter Siri, improved maps app, Passbook mobile wallet system, and much more.

Both Samsung Galaxy S III and HTC One X will be running on an amazing smartphone operating system as well which is the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Both Android smartphones are yet to be updated with the latest version after the release of the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean on October this year. Samsung reported that they aim at getting the update before the year ends. HTC also aims at updating their One X smart phone but they still have to advise when.

For Samsung Galaxy S III and HTC One X, they have to wait to be updated with the latest Android 4.1 before getting its new features such as the faster, more fluid and smoother performance, the Android Beam, actionable notifications, more customizations in answering or rejecting phone calls and much more.

Processor

Apple enhanced iPhone 5 tremendously when it comes to this aspect by powering it with an A6 chip processor that has twice the speed and graphics power with its predecessor, the A5 chip. The new chip is also smaller than the A5 and is more battery-efficient. Samsung Galaxy S3 also has a powerful processor with their Exynos 4412 1.4 GHz quad core while the HTC One X has the 1.5 GHz Nvidia Tegra 3 quad core chip but both processors are more on the plump side compared to iPhone 5’s A6 chip.

Screen

People are certainly excited about iPhone 5’s increase in screen size but their excitement might not be as intense when it comes to comparing it with its strongest competitors namely the Samsung Galaxy S III and HTC One X. That is, if screen size will be the topic in the comparison where iPhone 5 will fare last with its 4-inch screen, HTC One X will place second with its 4.7 inch screen and Samsung Galaxy S III will place first with its biggest screen among the three measuring 4.8 inches.

However, size should not be the only indicator of a high quality display. While iPhone 5’s screen measures merely 4 inches, having a 326 ppi pixel density will certainly exude a mean display. Samsung Galaxy S III has a 306 ppi pixel density while HTC One X has 312 ppi pixel density.

Dimension

If portability is among your major concerns for a smartphone, iPhone 5 is the best choice with its 123.8 x 58.6 x 7.6 mm dimension. It is also the lightest among the three at 112 grams. Samsung is more on the hefty size with its 136.6 x 70.6 x 8.6 mm dimension and 133 grams for its weight. HTC One X places itself in the middle but is closer to Samsung Galaxy X III with its 134.4 x 69.9 x 8.9 mm measurement and 139 grams weight.

Camera

iPhone 5’s rear camera has the same mega pixels as that of the iPhone 4s which is 8 megapixels. However, the iPhone 5 has a panorama feature for its rear camera. Its front camera is capable of recording videos at 720p.

The two Android devices’ rear camera also has 8 megapixels. However, Samsung Galaxy S III has the quick press shot as their unique rear camera feature. Samsung Galaxy S III’s front camera has 1.9MP while HTC One X has 1.3MP for its front camera.

Connectivity

All three smartphones are capable of handling mobile broadband connection thus, allowing the user to make the most out of their iOS or Android smartphone.

iPhone 5, Samsung Galaxy S III and HTC One X have 4G LTE support, 802.11n WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0. However, only Samsung Galaxy S III and HTC One X has the NFC technology.
