Have you noticed that people are now sharing a lot of pictures with different effects on their social networking accounts.  These enhanced photos that range from those bursting with color to those subdued and set in earth tones are courtesy of the Instgram app. Instagram has been touted as one of the most used apps in the market and has placed a new word, ‘iphoneography’ in pop culture vocabulary.  This app has made photo sharing more accessible and easy with its various functionalities connected to social networking sites.  So many people with broken devices have made sure to sell broken iPad so that they could replace them with new ones and enjoy Instagram more.

But people are worried over the fact that since it has been bought by Facebook, Instagram might undergo drastic changes, and worse, might be phased out soon.  You might see the clues since Instagram’s Twitter functionality has been pared down, not to mention it has been constantly undergoing long periods of service maintenance. Enthusiasts of apps that give pictures unique effects may be relieved to find out that there are other alternatives to Instagram, giving you almost the same benefits and features as the old app.

Pixlr-o-matic (Free / $0.99)

This app has both free and paid versions. It is available on most platforms and even has a Facebook app version, as well as one for your Mac or desktop. It has a wide array of effects and filters and you can edit your existing pictures from your Camera Library.  Default filters are named after people, like Anne, Bob, and Hagrid.  Other effects from creative, soft, subtle, too old, unicolor, and vintage can also be added.  Lighting and frame effects are also available, giving users a wide range of options on what to do with their pictures. This is definitely one app you’d like to sell your iPad for so you can get an upgrade.

Pinwheel (Free)

This free app works almost the same as Instagram.  You can apply filters to your pictures giving different effects and upload them to your group of selected friends.  There are also frames for you to use for your pics.  The difference here is that photos are private because they will only be shown to your selected friends.  You can also publish the photo on Facebook and Twitter if you want to.

Snapseed ($4.99)

Though not a free app, the money that you pay for Snapseed is worth it because you can edit pictures using this.  You can adjust, rotate, crop, put overlays and apply filters all in one app.  There are also pre-installed effects, which will make your pictures more dramatic.  You can choose to save pictures to your camera roll or post it on Facebook or Twitter.

These are just some of the alternatives you can enjoy among photo effect apps before you decide to sell broken iPad. You don’t have to worry if Facebook messes up Instragram, because now, you know you have a good number of alternatives.
